Does keeping your word still matter?
I’d like to think it does...
I’d like to think that keeping my word still matters these days.
I’m not sure if that’s still case these days, but it is something I prioritize in my own life.
If I mess up, I try to notice as soon as possible and make things right again.
When I don’t do what I say I’m going to do, it doesn’t feel good.
And even worse, it usually rubs other people the wrong way, too.
That can be a problem when those people are your husband/wife, your top client(s), or your friends or colleagues.
You know what I mean?
If you say you’ll be at the restaurant at 6pm, are you there by 6(or even a few minutes early)?
If you say you’ll go to the gym 3x this week, does it happen?
If you say you’ll get that report to your client by end of day, are you good for it?
These are a few good questions you can ask yourself to check if you’re a man or woman of your word.
Because when you are, people can trust you more deeply.
They can trust you with more money, more share of their projects, more intimacy, and more connection to who they are, too.
You avoid the stress that comes from frustrated partners and upset clients.
You avoid the sad feelings of letting yourself down and suffering in silence.
You avoid spiraling into coping mechanisms that just make everything worse.
I don’t know about you, but I think that’s probably worth the effort of keeping your word in your day-to-day life.
Like Jesus once said,
“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.”
If you’d like some help with this, just reply to this email and let me know what’s going on.
Go easy,
